NASHVILLE – Country and country radio fans have long missed the smooth, baritone styling of Nashville immortals like Eddy Arnold and Jim Reeves. Now the gifted Illinois country singer and songwriter Laine Daniels has joined forces with ace Music Row producer and multi-instrumental session star Mark Dreyer to give today’s fans a Christmas present that combines the magic of those earlier legends with modern Nashville styling, the hooky holiday single “A Country Christmas.”
From the sleigh bells in the introduction to the pedal steel and Laine’s lighthearted, confident vocals throughout, radio listeners know right away they’re in for a treat.
Daniels was midway through recording his debut album at Dreyer’s studio when Mark suggested that Laine add a Christmas song to the project.
“At first I had in mind a slow song, sort of like Kenny Chesney’s `Boys Of Fall,’ ” Daniels says in a phone conversation from Bolingbrook, Illinois, where he works days as a 20-year veteran supervisor of the United States Postal Service. “I had the first seven lines of the song, and when I got to Nashville, Mark, my sister and manager Lorrieanne, and I actually wrote it in about 40 minutes.”
After Laine sang a powerhouse vocal and Mark added the studio magic, “A Country Christmas” had turned into something very special indeed.
“This song combines the great Western swing feel of Bob Wills and George Strait, and I’ve often commented on Laine’s incredible work ethic,” Dreyer says.
Laine adds: “I love the energy of this song. We were down in Burlington, Illinois for a photo shoot at Kathy’s Country Market. We asked if we could use the store in the photo for the song, and Kathy said, `Shoot it from right here, inside the store.’ And she’s the Mayor of Burlington!” For bookings and more info log on to www.LaineDaniels.com
