Nov. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Round Rock TX -The Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) is proud to announce that Lisa McAllister, representing the Tidewater Soulja Girlz, has been awarded a full delegate membership license. The Soulja Girlz will join the league’s growing roster of teams in the Mid Atlantic Division for the 2011 season and will play an exciting schedule against teams like the Baltimore Nighthawks, Carolina Phoenix, Carolina Queens and Philadelphia Firebirds.

The Soulja Girlz is a new team organized to provide women in Virginia the opportunity to play tackle football at a national level. The team is owned by local businesswoman Lisa McAllister, who brings over a decade of sports and entertainment experience to this new local endeavor. As the original owner of the Miami Fury, McAllister, introduced women’s tackle football to South Florida in 1999 and successfully established the Fury in one of the nation’s largest markets. Under McAllister’s guidance the Fury became known as one of the toughest teams in women’s football. She established a “brother-sister” relationship with the Miami Dolphins; was awarded the Key to the City of Miami from Mayor Manny Diaz; and was awarded a Proclamation from Congresswoman Carrie Meeks designating May 24 as “MIAMI FURY DAY”.

“Lisa is a veteran women’s football team owner. She knows the business and has a solid plan to bring the sport to  Southeastern Virginia,” said IWFL Chief Operating Officer Kezia Disney, “As one of the sport’s founding team owners she brings a unique perspective on what direction the sport should be moving in, and she has the dedication to be a part of getting it there.”

“A unique opportunity for women and football is finally here! My coaches will teach women how to play from the ground-up. As an avid athlete, I wish that I could have had the opportunity to play football and achieve a full paid football scholarship to a prestigious college, just as the many male professional football athletes that grace the major networks. I will bring this awareness of women’s football not only to the local “little leagues” but also to the middle and high schools, as they only provide “flag football”. We are welcoming ages from 18 and up to join our Soulja Girlz team. Never played football before; want to be a part of a women’s sport??? It is OUR time! Our local area will be proud of this team and the positive influence that the SOULJA GIRLZ will bring to our community,” stated Lisa McAllister Tidewater Soulja Girlz Team Owner.

The Soulja Girlz will hold player tryouts in December. All Tidewater area women interested in playing football in the IWFL are encouraged to contact the team for more information. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. The team’s highly qualified staff will teach you everything you need to know to play football at a national level.
