The new generators are being geared at 4 or 5 to one producing enough RPM with room to spare to reach a 24 volt cut in allowing the system to be used in grid tie interactive or rural power applications where a bold stream is featured in the land scape. The generators can be wired in series or parallel. The generators have three charging options. Basically with the option to charge batteries, grid tie, or a combination of both.
The new double rotor double stator systems are based on the popular CAT 5 wind generator system, but have a heavier stator that is able to take advantage of the heavier current and power that is available in a hydro application. These units are being used with dams, as well as other simpler configurations.
The prototype system used an outback interactive grid tie inverter and the Hurricane waterworks system equipped with a cooling fan and was able to generator around one kilowatt continuous. The new Micro Hydro generators can be seen at:
