C&T Publishing hits a Home Run with Stash Books

CONCORD, CA, November 16th, 2010—C&T Publishing declares it’s new imprint, Stash Books—Fabric Arts for a Handmade Lifestyle, a success! Last spring, the publishing company launched this new line of books to appeal to the younger, craft-sewing audience. Stash Books titles quickly rose to the top of the Amazon best-seller lists in the Crafts/Hobbies category and broke all sales projections. The demand for these books has been so high, that they have already been reprinted a combined 14 times.

Stash Books’ focus is to deliver great content from authoritative, trend-forward authors that promote the love of fabric and sewing. Titles are offered at lower price points, but still boast inspirational photography and beautiful, clean graphics.

Susanne Woods, C&T Publishing’s Acquisitions Editor, is the driving force behind Stash Books.  With her discerning eye and ability to spot trends before they become popular, Susanne has been able to develop a best-selling publishing plan.  Not only does she acquire books for the imprint, she also is responsible for our core list of quilting titles.  Susanne started as an intern with C&T in 1995 after finishing her degree in English.  She went onto NYU's Publishing School and after graduating, started her career at Workman Publishing.  She moved to England in 2001 and continued her career in illustrated publishing.  But the pull of quiltmaking brought her back to C&T in the fall of 2008.

“It is such a gift that the team at C&T Publishing had confidence in my vision for a new imprint…they not only allowed me the room to pursue it, but got behind the concept 100%.  C&T Publishing and the first two seasons of authors on our Stash Books list both took a huge risk in this quest to reach a new consumer group.  Happily, each of the titles on our Stash Books list has far exceeded our sales projections, and I am thrilled to have contributed in such a measurable way to the stability of a company that I have revered for many years,” said Woods.

From the beginning, Stash Books has been well-received by its target demographic. Kristen Link, host of the popular blog, Sew Mama Sew, wrote in with these kind words:  “Just wanted to congratulate you on Stash Books and all that you've done in the short time since we first "met" you on the blog! You went from nothing to suddenly being a huge presence in the crafty book scene! I'm so impressed and happy for you.”

In addition to the success of the new imprint, C&T Publishing is moving forward in all aspects of publishing technology. The company currently offers four iPhone apps and over 250 eBooks, and hosts two dynamic blogs. C&T is excited to announce another new venture, PatternSpot, coming in early 2011.  PatternSpot is an online marketplace for pattern designers to upload and directly sell their downloadable designs to avid quilters and sewists.   With instant pattern downloads, shoppers can view, purchase, and start working on their projects immediately.  No more waiting for patterns to arrive in the mail.

C&T Publishing has been in business for over 25 years, the last 8 of which under the leadership of Publisher, Amy Marson. Marson has led the company though these tough economic times with a strong sense of purpose and an even stronger sense of humor.  In the last two years, Marson and her team have increased the company’s profitability by over 200% and the company has grown to meet the demands of its dedicated audience.

In 2009, C&T Publishing was honored to be recognized as one of the “Top 10 Publishing Companies to Work For” by Book Business Magazine, and this year the National Art Materials Trade Association selected C&T as one of the winners of their prestigious Business Innovation Awards.

C&T Publishing’s staff and authors live their mission statement every day...Innovate. Educate. Create.
