'A Man Called Bruce' is different from his local counterparts, in that his music is not Gospel oriented. He does mention Jesus in a song he wrote about the true life story of his father-in-law (a long-time preacher). Other than that, he serves up a smooth blend of secular music that runs from the serious old timey country and traditional folk, to a humorous song which is really about the hazards of drinking entitled, "Do U Have As Much Fun Sober As U Did Drinkin' With Me?" He sings in an almost Broadway musical style in another song called "Falling In Love."
There's no doubt that 'A Man Called Bruce" is a talented songwriter. His songs are well crafted and most of them tell a story. The new CD is simply produced, with some songs being just one guitar and his sometimes whiskey & cigarettes voice.
Another song of note is the title cut from his upcoming CD, "Tennessee". It tells about some of the places he's been (apparently he's been around), but he'd rather live here in southeast Tennessee. He sings, "No I wasn't born here, but I never want to leave." That says alot about 'A Man Called Bruce.'
