Nov. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- San Leandro, CA – MedShare, a top-rated charity with operations in San Leandro, California, announces the appointment of three new members to its Western Region Council.

MedShare is an innovative non-profit with a dual mission to deliver surplus medical supplies to underserved populations around the world while lessening the impact of medical waste in Northern CA. The organization is California’s first large-scale recycler of surplus medical supplies and mobilizes over 3,000 community volunteers each year to help it sort, box and ship life-saving aid.

“The staff and current council members of MedShare are pleased to welcome these new leaders to our Western Region Council. As we continue to expand our operations we are engaging new members to lend their expertise, share their passion and to promote our brand as they link MedShare’s work to the communities we serve and are a supportive resource to the board and management,” said A.B. Short, co-founder and CEO of MedShare.

New members include:

Sara Broadbent of San Francisco is Senior Program Director at Specialty Technical Consultants. Broadbent, who has more than 30 years of environmental, health, and safely management experience, was one of the first women to become a certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Los Angeles Country and is a California Registered Environmental Assessor. She volunteers for the Moss Landing Research Center and is a long-time member of the Sierra Club and the Nature Conversancy. As an environmental professional, Broadbent is appreciative of the amount of non-degradable waste that MedShare has put to good use rather than entombing in landfills.

Sue Sprunk of Hillsborough is the owner of Artistry of Poland. With an MBA in Marketing from the University of Michigan, she has 30 years of experience at the executive level in marketing and advertising. Sprunk is current a member of the Board of Directors of the International Women’s Forum, and the past President and current Board Member of the Northern California chapter. She has also been involved in the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association (RAMA) and the Television Bureau (TVB). Of MedShare, Sprunk says, “It is the best of people helping people. It provides medical equipment to hospitals and patient in need, and also protects our landfills from equipment that has value in other countries. This is the best win-win that I have heard of in a long time.”

Andrea Sandvig of San Anselmo has a background in marketing communications and fund raising. She has designed communications programs for Fortune 500 companies and Non-Profit Organizations, and has also developed branding strategies for companies such as United Airlines, Dole Foods and Clorox. While a consultant for the Headland Center for the Arts, an internationally acclaimed artist-in-residence program, she developed programs to create awareness and visibility among non-arts based audiences. She volunteers at the Marin Montessori, Primary and Middle Schools.

The three new members bring the Council membership to 15. The Council generates awareness of MedShare in the local community and raises funds to support and sustain the organization’s dual humanitarian aid and environmental mission.
