We all agree that our physical health and well being is extremely important. But many of us forget about our emotional health, and our social health...

Nov. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Social Health is how healthy your social life is. Emotional health is how healthy your thoughts and feelings are. This is different to Mental Health which refers to more serious conditions of Mental Illness. Of course, mental health is important but the less we look after our emotional and social health the more likely we are to have problems in this area.

Your social life is not all about going out with friends. It is about your ability to make friends and connect with them. The ability you have to create a life where you spend lots of time in the company of others that you enjoy being with. When this falters, loneliness and feeling misunderstood can have severe consequences on your emotional health.

Furthermore, if you allow yourself to dwell on negative thoughts and have no one to discuss them with, it can send you into a spiral very difficult to recover from.

The answer is in looking after the way you think and communication with others. It's important to develop a high sense of self esteem and then to learn how to better get on with others. It involves changing your attitude toward yourself and those that exist in your world. It is very possible to do.

Your esteem can be boosted by addressing what Owen Fitzpatrick, Psychologist and Founder of The Charisma Bootcamp, calls the 7 keys to High Self Esteem.

They include:

- Self Love (loving who you are)
- Self Acceptance (Accepting your good and bad points)
- Self Control (taking responsibility and control over your behaviour)
- Self Assertiveness (Independence, Standing up for yourself)
- Self Understanding (knowing yourself and your reason for being)
- Self Belief (believing in yourself and your capabilities)
- Self Respect (respecting yourself and acting with integrity)

If you can address each of these, you can feel far better about who you are which will in turn help you communicate better with those around you.

Owen Fitzpatrick is one of the speakers (along with comedian Karl Spain and top Stylist Sonya Lennon) at the Charisma Bootcamp held in the Burlington Hotel 9th-12th December 2010. Check out www.charisma.ie/more-details for all the information on this event.
