Nov. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- On May 17, 2010, Los Angeles Family Law Attorney Mark B. Baer published his Blog article entitled, "The Real Problem with the Department of Children and Family Services." Baer stated that, "The subject interested the editor of the San Gabriel Valley Psychological Association's bimonthly newsletter and she requested that I edit the Blog article for my column in that newsletter." The edited article was published in the November/December 2010 edition of the San Gabriel Valley Psychological Association's newsletter.

Baer commented that, "After reading the article, a social worker who had previously worked for Child Protective Services in Alameda County, California for 8 years contacted me and advised me that 'There was nothing in place to protect the children who needed high level placements. By this I mean, when they were taken from high level to lower level, it just happened. Nothing was done to ensure their safety or the placement safety. The placement team was lying to the new placement and downplaying their behaviors, thereby potentially putting the placement and children there in jeopardy. There was also a lot of political mind games going on with social workers from the top.... The social workers are good people at CPS (some of them). The agency is bad and they are getting worse. The agency runs workers into the ground and we are afraid to talk to anyone. If you are in this unhealthy emotional space, you are going to make mistakes.'" Baer stated that, "The response from that social worker was no surprise to me because I wrote the original Blog only after a clinical psychologist friend of mine who went to high school with me and who is familiar with the Department, told me exactly the same thing."

Quoting another social worker who works for Child Protective Services and who had contacted Baer after reading a different Blog of his, Baer stated, "'When lives and families (especially the children) seem to pay the price' for DCFS' failings, that price is just a bit too high for my comfort."
