Aug. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Federal prisons not only vary as to security level, custody level and type, but they vary as to violence, gangs, and types of inmates in the prison. If you are going in, don't you want input as to your safety and security? Well, there is one sure fire method to get this information and assure your safety and security in federal prison. Get a good and knowledgeable Federal Prison Consultant to help you!

The United States incarcerates more people than any other country in the world. Federal incarceration is the main form of punishment for the commission of a federal felony offense in the United States. Today, prisons are overcrowded, unsafe, and many of the violent inmates are restricted to United States Penitentiaries (U.S.P.s) or the federal Supermax prison, ADX Florence in Florence, Colorado, also known as the “Alcatraz of the Rockies.” Others may be with you.

ADX Florence is the Supermax of them all. There are 31 of them around the country, and one of the biggest is the ADX Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado. It's the only federal supermax in the country; the others are state prisons. The ADX Florence prison is home to about 500 of the most dangerous criminals in the country. Almost all inmates have been transferred from other facilities, where they were deemed a serious lethal threat or a high-escape risk. Inmates who reside in ADX Florence include Theodore Kaczynski, the Unabomber; Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano, Gambino family informant; Terry Nichols, one of the Oklahoma City Bombers; Luis Felipe, the head of the Latin Kings gang; Aryan Brotherhood members John Greschner and Barry Mills; and many Al-Qaeda members who participated in the World Trade Center bombings. Although you won’t be going to the Supermax in Colorado, these inmates may be safer than you are. Why, because they are in individual solitary confined cells with 23 hour lockdown. They do not associate with, talk to, or see other inmates. One hour a day they are allowed to exercise, by themselves with handcuffs and leg irons on, in a concrete chamber. They basically live in a tomb, a living hell.

These inmates had no input as to their designation to this facility. You do. Don’t leave the choice of your facility up to the Bureau of Prisons, BOP. Michael Frantz, Federal Prison Consultant for Jail Time Consulting LLC and the Prison Consulting Group LLC said recently, “There are several factors which help to determine which federal prison a defendant is initially designated to. They include the level of security and supervision the inmate requires, the location of the inmate’s family, the level of overcrowding in a specific federal prison, the defendant’s program needs, the defendant’s medical needs, judicial recommendations, and if the defendant has any Central Inmate Monitoring (CIM) issues."  Frantz went on to say, “Due to current prison overcrowding and the large number of white-collar defendants being incarcerated, white-collar defendants are finding it more and more difficult to be designated close to their families and to be designated to a lower security federal prison. More and more white-collar defendants are being designated to geographically removed federal prisons, far from their families. Many white-collar defendants are also being designated to a higher security level federal prison. The days of a slap on the wrist, probation, and/or home confinement are over for white-collar defendants. Prison overcrowding, clogged courts, more vigorous prosecution of white-collar crimes, and longer sentences all combine for more and more unfavorable designations.”

But there is hope says Frantz. Retaining a good Federal Prison Consultant who will assist the defendant and his family in making an informed choice is the first step.  Jail Time Consulting has a Designation Program specifically designed to assist the defendant in being placed in a safe and secure facility as close to the defendant’s family as possible.  Jail Time Consulting’s Designation Program also makes sure the facility is compatible with the defendant’s security and custody level and offers the programs the defendant needs. Consultant Frantz develops an individualized and specific “Designation Spreadsheet” for each client that contains over twenty-one (21) factors or aspects to consider when individualizing and proposing a facility for a client. He reviews the spreadsheet with the client and his family and they make an informed choice. Then Frantz goes about collecting and developing supporting documentation, information, and Court records to prepare a placement package to send to the appropriate individuals in the BOP and elsewhere that are responsible for designation. “You have to be proactive in this important process” says Michael Frantz, “You cannot leave this critical decision entirely up to the Bureau of Prisons. If you do, chances are you will be very sorry you did.”

Jail Time Consulting offers many other valuable programs for those individuals facing federal incarceration. They offer both pre- and post-sentencing programs and can assist the defendant in many pre- and post-incarceration choices.  In these times when the Department of Justice boasts of a 97% guilty plea rate in federal criminal cases, a 75% conviction rate following trial, it is imperative that a federal defendant confers with more than his attorney. A defendant’s attorney may be knowledgeable in criminal prosecution, plea agreements, and preparing for trial, but they know nothing about the Bureau of Prisons, the BOP’s programs, and what the defendant will be facing. Remember, after sentencing you will not hear from your attorney again.  The fact that 91% of all federal criminal defendants receive a prison sentence certainly points to the reality that a defendant should have someone looking out for his best interests both before and after sentencing. A knowledgeable and experienced Federal Prison Consultant can do just that.
