kalmstrom.com CEO Leaves Skype

Nov. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Peter Kalmstrom created his first applications when he was a consultant and could not find the products his customers needed on the market, and he has sold standard versions of them since the turn of the millennium.  The common theme for all the kalmstrom.com products is that they add a bit of functionality on top of Microsoft Office, and today Peter’s products are sold all over the world.

After having expanded the business during a few years, Peter and kalmstrom.com had a big success with the add-on Outlook Skype in 2004. This application added a Skype toolbar to Outlook and made it possible to place Skype calls directly from inside the Outlook Contacts. Of course Skype became interested in developing this application further and in making use of Peter’s inventiveness, so in 2005 he begun working full time as Product Manager for Skype Toolbars.

During his five years at Skype Peter has led several pioneering projects. You have probably seen phone numbers on web pages turn into clickable buttons ‒ that is Peter’s creation and an example of the kind of work he was responsible for at Skype.

When Peter was fully engaged in his work at Skype he did not have much time for kalmstrom.com Business Solutions, but he continued as CEO. Thanks to loyal and capable employees and to his parents, who took over some of his duties, he could leave the worries about the daily work behind and only come in when his expert knowledge was needed. But still, he had a lot of ideas for kalmstrom.com Business Solutions that he did not have time to elaborate.

In October this year Peter therefore left Skype. Now he will work more actively with kalmstrom.com Business Solutions. He wants to add new functionality to the existing products and also develop new ones, for example small custom solutions or apps for the major smart phone platforms, including iPhone, Windows Mobile 7 and BlackBerry. Another area he wants to explore is creating products in cooperation with other companies. After it was known that Peter would be more accessible he has already received various interesting suggestions.

Peter will not only devote his time to new development, though. He will also lecture on advanced seminars held by Cornerstone, Sweden’s leading company for IT education. Furthermore he will try to get some more Microsoft certificates. Today he has eleven MCP Certifications, but his knowledge about the latest technologies will help him pass even more exams.

“It was not an easy decision to leave Skype”, says Peter Kalmstrom. “My employment there has given me important experience and knowledge and a great network. But after five years I felt it was time to do something else, and I wanted to dedicate more time to my own products. I see a lot of new possibilities ahead, and it will be exciting to investigate how far I can go with them.”
