New York Dentist Collected Over One Ton of Candy

Nov. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- It was a very big treat!  And an even bigger smile … because more than 1 TON OF CANDY was collected in the annual candy drive by Dr. Benjamin Dancygier of Valley Pediatric Dentistry in Jefferson Valley, New York.

The office donated over 2,000 pounds of Halloween candy from trick-or-treaters to ‘Operation Support Our Troops’ for distribution to service men and women deployed overseas.

This third annual candy buy-back is part of Valley Pediatric Dentistry's commitment to promote dental health by encouraging good nutrition habits that last a lifetime.  In 2009, the office collected over 900 pounds of candy, up from the 150 pounds that was donated in 2008.  

The offer was that Dr. Dancygier and his staff would weigh and pay each child $1 for each pound of candy that was collected.  However, many people just simply donated their Halloween treats.  

“We are thrilled that we received all of this candy.  So many children were excited to participate and support our drive and they even asked their friends, neighbors, classmates and scout troops to contribute with them,” said Dr. Dancygier.  “We love to see children smile and knowing that all of this candy will also bring a smile to our troops, makes this all the more worthwhile.  And of course, it helps keep the children’s teeth clean and healthy.”  

‘Operation Support Our Troops’ is a national non-profit organization with a regional location based in West Point., that sends gift packages to the troops and uses Halloween candy to include in the holiday gift boxes they send out in December.
