Nov. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- DETROIT, M.I. – Veterans Day Michigan residents are putting up their American flags all over the state. Interestingly, the end of World War I formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. That moment created an official holiday to celebrate the bravery and valor of each Veteran that has fallen or has lived on to tell their tale. The holiday has even extended to current soldiers who are still fighting the wars of this nation.

Just as all over the country, Detroit MI is celebrating with various parades and events throughout the state. Although there was a low turnout for the Detroit Veteran’s Day Parade on November 6, most believe it was because it was a week earlier than the actual holiday. Other big cities of Michigan are staying with tradition and celebrating today.

The Ann Arbor Veterans Association will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. which the Red Cross will also participate in. Also an event called “Veterans For Peace” will be conducted by Chapter 93 at its “Arlington Michigan” memorial display at Ann Arbor’s Veterans Park. Chapter 93 will display one cross for every Michigan soldier killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Kalamazoo, Mich., is having ceremonies where each name of a fallen Kalamazoo County veteran will be read with a commemorative ceremony following at the Rose Park Veterans Memorial.

In the smaller Michigan city of Holly, The Great Lakes National Cemetery is honoring those who served in the armed forces. All veterans are encouraged to wear their medals and ribbons. Also in Holly, a Veterans Day Salute will be held at the Karl Richter Campus Auditorium. There will be patriotic songs, poetry, monologues, and a flag-folding ceremony.
Veterans Day Michigan celebrations will be ongoing throughout the day in cities across Michigan. Any way is a good way to thank those who have fought hard for their country.
