Contract Postal Units in America

Nov. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- There are currently thousands of Contract Postal Units (CPU’s) operating throughout the United States that offer many of the most popular postal products and services traditionally only available by visiting a main Post Office. Including Domestic and International mailing and shipping, some of these products and services are:

The Contract Postal Unit (CPU) is by USPS definition  “a supplier-owned or supplier-leased site operated by the supplier, under contract to the Postal Service™ to provide postal services to the public at Postal prices.”   CPU’s are often conveniently located inside other businesses and offer customers the ability of being able to purchase stamps or ship packages at Postal prices.

Since CPU owners usually operate the CPU in conjunction with another business, they face a variety of unique challenges on a daily basis. In order to address these issues it became clear to CPUAA founders, Lee Adams and Barry Diamond, that a national group association should be established.  As long term CPU owners themselves, they worked closely with other CPU owners and members of the USPS to develop an association that addressed the combined needs of both parties.  

According to Dennis Kelly lll, National USPS Program Director for the CPU Program,
“ON BEHALF OF THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE, I WANT TO WELCOME YOU TO THE CONTRACT POSTAL UNIT ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA (CPUAA).  WE ARE PROUD TO BE A MEMBER OF THE ADVISORY BOARD OF THIS ASSOCIATION.  OUR VISION IS THAT THIS ASSOCIATION WILL BECOME A CONDUIT FOR INFORMATION FROM THE POSTAL SERVICE TO OUR CPU PARTNERS AS WELL AS PROVIDING BENEFICIAL SERVICES TO THE MEMBERS.  WE WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF THE POSTAL SERVICE AND WE TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR PARTNERSHIP.”

In addition to offering members operational support, the CPUAA has negotiated low cost national programs including credit card processing, payroll, insurance, postal supplies, merchandising and more.  Focusing on its mission statement, “Contract Postal Unit Association of America is dedicated to serving our members, enhancing training through information and education and providing unique opportunities to improve profitability” the CPUAA offers its members a variety of invaluable benefits.  

As a final note Barry Diamond adds, “With the CPUAA acting as a cooperative group, it is finally possible for individual CPU’s throughout the USA to benefit in ways that were previously impossible for any single unit to attain. We are very excited about the future of the Contract Postal Unit in America and look forward to playing an important role in improving the success and profitability of every unit.”
