Nov. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Since the “Bucket List” movie of 2007 everyone either has created a list or has been thinking about the idea.  We are all going to “kick the bucket” sooner or later so what is it that we need to do before we get too old or sick. What is going to give each of our lives meaning or make us feel really alive?

Many a list has been made with ideas of visiting the Pyramids in Egypt, swimming with dolphins, seeing the Taj Mahal, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, living in your dream house, and on and on and on.  It is great to have a list of things to aspire to but what is it going to cost to accomplish these things? A lot of money for sure. In these times when people are losing their jobs and their homes and baby boomers are retiring with less money than they expected many people become overwhelmed and give up on their bucket list.

Barb Chipperfield says “keep that list”. You never know when you might inherit a pile of money, win a lottery or something completely unexpected happens. But in the mean time you can create an “everyday” bucket list of really amazing, inspiring things that can impact your life and cost nothing or very little.

Because of the high cost of travel people are starting to take “daycations” and “staycations”. There are probably countless things that we can all do very close to home with very little cost. Chipperfield remembers a day a few summers ago when she and a friend rented a canoe for $25 for the day. They paddled up a creek on a beautiful sunny day for about an hour. They beached the canoe and hiked a trail through the forest for another hour. The forest was beautiful with huge cedar and fir trees and luscious ferns. The rays of sun shining through the trees was awe inspiring. Is Greece or Italy any more beautiful than this?

At the end of the trail was a most beautiful river with waterfalls, huge rocks and wonderful clear pools. They swam and had a picnic of fruit, cheeses, olives, French bread and wine.  “I will never forget that day” says Chipperfield. “I was so close to home but I was in another world. It was such a beautiful place.”

Bucket lists are important. They give us goals, they inspire us, and they give us things to look forward to. They are about reaching higher, going farther, inspiring and helping others. They give meaning to our lives. So there is no reason that we can’t do things everyday close to home that gives are life meaning and inspires others. These things can be free or cost very little.

On your “everyday” bucket list there could be things like a phone call to an old friend, take someone’s dog or baby for a walk, sign up for a class, visit a museum or art gallery, start a blog online or raise money for a charity. All of these things can create new experiences or cause us to begin new relationships that could even change our lives. Everyday can be an adventure and should be.
