Grammy Winning Artist Regina Belle Performs at Atlanta Urban League 90th Anniversary Gala

(November  2010) – The Atlanta Urban League will celebrate 90 years of serving the metro Atlanta community with its 49th Annual Equal Opportunity Day Dinner featuring rhythm and blues vocalist Regina Belle. The dinner will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, 7 p.m. at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis and will honor those who demonstrate a commitment to bettering the community through initiatives and exemplary service which advance equal opportunity in metro Atlanta. This year’s dinner is chaired by Deborah Thomas, Atlanta Urban League Board Member and Vice President of Human Resources for Cox Media Group. Jovita Moore, news anchor and reporter for WSB-TV’s Channel 2 Action News, will serve as the mistress of ceremonies.

Former retired Atlanta Urban League President, Lyndon A. Wade who served as the agency's chief executive officer for more than 32 years, is among the 2010 honorees and will be presented with the Legacy Award. The 2010 Equal Opportunity Award honorees are civil rights trailblazers Dr. Joseph E. and Mrs. Evelyn G. Lowery Other honorees include, State Farm Insurance Company, Lucy Hall-Gainer of Mary Hall Freedom House, Inc. and Jae Brown of the Atlanta Urban League Young Professionals.

“I am elated that The Atlanta Urban League is honoring me with this special recognition,” said Wade. “The Equal Opportunity Day Dinner is a time for the agency to recognize those who are working to improve the quality of life for everyone in our city and I am proud to be a part of it.”
