The Church of the Friendly Ghost presents Monahans SHADOWBOX (LIVE) with The Whiskey Priest on Sunday, December 5th at the Salvage Vanguard Theater in Austin, Texas. The performance is from 8:30-10, with doors opening at 8:00 and a ticket price of $10 (BYOB). This will be a unique audio/visual experience in an intimate theater setting.

Since March, Monahans has been releasing a new song each month as part of their 2010 Recordings series.  All of these tracks are available as free downloads from the band's website, monahans.net, through the end of December.  This special performance marks the final appearance of the year by one of Austin's "bands on the rise" and "ones to watch for in 2010", as named by Tribeza and Austin Monthly, respectively.  Monahans also recently completed a live taping of Austin City Limits Satellite Sets, a web series of live performances shot in the ACL Studio, based on the famous PBS show.

ABOUT MONAHANS
Austin-based band Monahans (not The Monahans), named for the desolate West Texas sand hills, balances thundering rhythms and atmospheric "landscape rock" with urgent pop anthems and spiritual campfire balladry (think Explosions In the Sky + R.E.M + Neil Young). Since their 2006 inception, Monahans have toured in support of Centro-matic and Cowboy Junkies, and played alongside the likes of J. Tillman and Magnolia Electric Co.  Albums to date include 'Low Pining' (2007, Undertow) and the 2009 Misra debut 'Dim The Aurora'. The band's lineup includes Ramble Creek studio engineer/producer Britton Beisenherz, Roberto Sanchez and Greg Vanderpool (all former Milton Mapes members), and longtime Spoon bassist Joshua Zarbo.

"Sophisticated, dreamy, driven, balanced. Rightly, this act has earned its buzz."- Austin-American Statesman

"Richly rooted in American rock traditionalism but also lurching noisily forward into something far more intriguing." - Magnet

"The finest bands create not only great songs but also mood, and no one gets that like Austin’s Monahans." - Texas Monthly

"Mixing everything you (should) like about Springsteen, Stone Roses, and Jesus & Mary Chain, Monahans are able to remind us that qualitative adjectives like ‘ambient’ and ‘tranquil’ are not antithetical to rock & roll." - InFlightAtNight.com

"Rubbing-shoulders distance of My Morning Jacket and Arcade Fire. Not bad company to be keeping, and a remarkable musical evolution"- Blurt

"Monahans dramatically demolish everything with a poetic pull to leave at least a hope of rebuilding something different, something more beautiful."- AustinSound.net

"...an under-the-radar gem. If given the chance, it will win you over." - Harp Magazine
