Follow on Google News | ‘Tis The Season For Cars And ChromeThe 51st Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts AutoRama will celebrate the holiday season with hundreds of hot rods, muscle cars and custom rides on display and competing during the Thanksgiving weekend.
By: Houston AutoRama “The Houston AutoRama is a place for car enthusiasts to meet fellow gearheads and swap stories, as well as check out the hottest custom rides in the world,” stated Bob Larivee Jr., CEO of Championship Auto Shows Inc. “The finest autos of the ‘50s and ‘60s will be displayed during the holiday event, including Shelby’s, vintage dragsters and Hot Rods. Serious car fans won’t want to miss this event.” The Houston AutoRama will offer a special section devoted to Shelby muscle cars. Called the Snake Pit, the AutoRama offers enthusiasts a glimpse of some of the best vintage Shelby Cobras and Mustangs in the world. The list of top Shelby’s on display includes a 1965 Shelby GT350 “Race Car” that is number 24 out of 25 built at the Venice Plant, which was devoted to manufacturing Shelby’s during that period. A 1966 Shelby Factory Drag Race Car will also be available for viewing pleasure. This racer is only one of four cars built and only one of three that still exists today. A 1970 Shelby GT500 convertible will also appear in the Snake Pit and is one of the last Shelby droptops built during the era. “AutoRama ‘Ol Skool Rodz” presented by Outcasts Car Club will display 120 traditional Hot Rods reflecting the trends and styles of car builders in the 1950s and ‘60s, while Drag City USA will have a collection of the most storied 1960s vintage dragsters showcased during the four action-packed days. Visitors will not only see some of the best classics during the car show, but will have the chance to purchase vehicles directly from the owner, as well as auto parts. The inaugural AutoRama Car Corral will be a gathering spot to buy a vehicle for play or as a project. After purchasing a vehicle at the Car Corral, the new owner can head over to the Swap Meet to find rare car parts and memorabilia available. Shelby vehicles aren’t the only famous rides available for viewing as Goodguys Hot Rod of the Year, a 1928 Ford will also be on display. Dennis Li’l Daddy Roth’s “Streetnik Bandit” will also make its first public appearance, following the 2010 SEMA show in Las Vegas. And from the craftsmen at Galpin Auto Sports, the radical concept car known as “Scythe” will also be showcased. “Guests will not only be able to check out cool rides up close, but cheer on their favorite vehicle or driver during the Burn Out contest, ISCA championship finals or even the Summit Racing Show Car Series Championship Finals,” noted Larivee Jr. “The AutoRama Action Arena will leave spectators on the edge of their seats.” The Houston event will also wrap up the AutoRama competition season. Winners who have qualified throughout the year at other AutoRama shows across the country will be entered into the championship in November. International Show Car Association judges will vote on the best of each division during this weekend.
