Nov. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Grand Bay, AL Nov. 8, 2010.  Tri-Coastal Community Outreach in Grand Bay, AL, continues to make this year’s Thanksgiving and Christmas a time of thanks for over 125 families in the Gulf Coast region, including Mobile and Baldwin Counties, and Jackson, County, Mississippi.

Tri-Coastal is asking the Gulf Coast community to respond generously to the needs of families in the community.  This year, the organization needs special items to supply a holiday meal for families in the Gulf Coast communities, and is asking the community to respond by sending financial support or food donations.  Some of the items needed for this Thanksgiving dinner are:

150 turkeys or hams
150 16 oz. cans of yams
150 packages of dinner rolls
150 cans of cranberry sauce
150 boxes of stuffing or dressing
150 boxes of macaroni and cheese, fresh fruit, cakes or pies,
Soft drinks

The number of families in need has increased drastically during this past year due to state of the economy, and the need for community support and caring in giving becomes very essential,“ said Carolyn Thompson, executive director.  “Donations began November 1 and will continue through December 15, so that food boxes may be filled before distribution on Nov. 13 and the week before Christmas,” she concluded.

Food donations may be dropped off at Tri-Coastal at 10520 Highway 188 in Grand Bay or at Gifts & Thrift on 12851 Highway 90 South, Ste. 3. Groups may make arrangements for pick-up if they are making a large donation of non-perishable food items.  Gifts & Thrift is offering any person bringing in 10 non-perishable food items or one unwrapped new toy a 15% discount coupon for their next shopping purchase in the store.

“Our donors are very responsive in continuing their support during the year, but it is those special times of the year when we require additional community support to share with others love and hope during the holidays,” Thompson said. The guiding philosophy of the organization is that “balance is essential to sustain a prosperous future generation”, so they are committed to “Reaching Beyond Borders” and work with people to create a harmonious future for all generations to come.

In 2009, Tri-Coastal Community Outreach accomplished:
-   Served over 10,000 individuals and families throughout the Gulf Coast region
-   Conducted over 100 classes and workshops to empower over 150 citizens to take care of themselves
-   Provided food boxes and turkeys for 125 families for Thanksgiving and Christmas
-   Provided 500 children with toys through “On Wings of Doves” Children’s Christmas Assistance Program
-   Provided school supplies for over 900 children grades K-12.

“It is our caring volunteers, many of them Hurricane Katrina disaster victims themselves who are motivated to “give something back,” who give hope to those in need,” said Thompson. “We need volunteers to help pack food boxes and be “Santa’s elves” for our Christmas distribution.”
