Michelle Brown-Stafford Launches “Parents as Partners” Campaign!

Parental Involvement Expert Michelle Brown-Stafford seeks to make the family habits of the "academic elite" more appealing to the masses.

Nov. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Michelle Brown-Stafford, mother of Morehouse College’s 14 Year old sophomore Stephen Stafford, is expected to announce her new campaign this Thursday on Atlanta’s WAOK-AM’s Derrick Boazman Show in assisting in the national home/school partnership effort.  Moving in concert with the needs expressed by parents nationally, she will follow up on Sunday, with an interview with CNN's Dr. Steve Perry!

After the Stafford Family story went public early in 2010, the number of parents contacting the family sponsored website Gifted-Spirit.Com for assistance was overwhelming.   According to Michelle Brown-Stafford, what parents revealed was that it wasn’t so much that they didn’t want to be involved in their children’s education but that often the phrase “parental involvement” didn’t translate into any meaningful, practical terms for them.

Parents have also expressed anxiety in their lack of ability to formulate the right questions on behalf of their children; ask for appropriate resources or on occasion have felt intimidated by school administrations.   But through Michelle Brown-Stafford’s “parent-to-parent” approach, parents have walked away with guidance on how to instantly improve their children’s academic situation, feeling more empowered despite the fact that a few possessed limited education.

The Campaign’s focus will be on offering immediate "academic relief” in the home to children in much the same way the Stafford children and those of academic elite households receive support.  Parents will be instructed at different levels on how to coach their children into the “flow of learning” that translates into results in the classroom.  Learning styles, as well as knowing when…and how to move a child along in academics when a local school isn’t in a position to do so will also be stressed.

While Michelle doesn’t profess to be able to solve the problem of parental-involvement with many of the nation’s school districts, she does believe that once parents are educated in basic methods of assisting in their children’s learning experience, the relationship between the home and school can start to improve.   In Michelle’s words, “I am fortunate that this is something I don’t have to prove.  Educational experts and researchers have been documenting the benefits effective parental involvement has had on children’s school performance and their schools for ages.  For me, this is just a matter of taking what has worked and making it more appealing to the masses.”

Because of the enormous demand from inquiring parents, the next logical step for Michelle was to initiate a campaign that welcomes the assistance of others in the community.  One project under the umbrella of "Parents as Partners" is collaboration with Talk 2 Your Baby Founder Claire Anderson, also a mother of a prodigy.   Their project, “Teaching a New Generation” is a free parental involvement workshop developed for schools.   And as direct evidence of the initiative meeting a need…the Campaign was just an idea when schools, media support and a potential sponsor emerged.  “I’m really excited to be able to take what I love to do to the next level so others can benefit on an even larger scale,” exclaims Brown-Stafford.

To sponsor the project, secure a speaking engagement or workshop, interested parties should call 678.278.8424 ext. 101 or visit Gifted-Spirit.Com.
