The Disabled American Veterans Organization - Helping our Heroes Build Better Lives!

They are our defenders, our protectors, and our heroes, but the men and women of the United States Armed Forces are also our sons and daughters, our neighbors, and our friends.  They willingly give their time and talent, and often their lives, to protect our freedoms and ensure our right to the American Dream.  We owe them not only an incredible debt of gratitude, but also the best possible care and rehabilitation when they return home from battle wounded.  Tune in to The Balancing Act November 11th at 7:00 am (ET/PT) on Lifetime Television to learn how the Disabled American Veterans organization (DAV) is helping our injured heroes build better lives.

The DAV was founded by veterans after World War I and later congressionally chartered as the official service organization for disabled military personnel and their families.  For more than 90 years the group has helped disabled veterans file claims for benefits, assisted them in finding fulfilling jobs, and ensured their access to medical care and rehabilitation services.  They also provide a much-needed social setting for veterans to interact and recover collaboratively.

“The burden of caring for severely injured veterans often falls on their families,” says Arthur H. Wilson, DAV National Adjutant and CEO.  “This Veterans Day, the DAV is proud to partner with The Balancing Act to bring awareness to the challenges faced by our nation’s disabled veterans and the families who support them.”

Vietnam Veteran Jim Sursely joins the show to share his story of recovery and how it inspired him to help other disabled veterans through the DAV volunteer program.  Through his partnership with the DAV he was able to make a difference in lives of numerous families, and he now encourages others to do the same.  Last year, people like Jim provided assistance to almost 250,000 veterans, and they hope to continue their mission of service for years to come.

“Having Jim Sursely from the Disabled American Veterans on ‘The Balancing Act’ is an honor,” says Doug Campbell, Founder and Executive VP of Programming for the show.  “The DAV has brought a great deal of hope to veterans and their families, providing a service that has a direct impact on many of our viewers.  We are proud that we could bring this message to our audience.”
