Nov. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- San Juan Howler Mountain Bike Race ( http://www.sanjuanhowler.com ) is thrilled to announce the third annual race on December 11, 2010.

San Juan Howler the last stop of the National Championship series for 2010. The categories currently running are: Elite, Open, Master A, Master B and CT.

World-class racer and lead monkey course-setter Anthony Ippolito loves this unique course. “Nicaragua is known for its untouched, raw landscape―and this course takes full advantage of the diversity in the surrounding terrain. You only have to go five minutes outside of San Juan to find some really amazing stuff!” Ippolito enthuses.

San Juan Howler, Nicaragua’s Mountain Bike Race, is based in San Juan del Sur on Nicaragua’s south west Pacific coastline.

San Juan Howler the undiscovered premier mountain bike race in Central America. Young compared to Guatemala’s El Reto del Quetzal and Costa Rica’s La Ruta de los Conquistadores, and ounce for ounce just as exciting.

San Juan Howler is organized by Bodhin Adventures ( http://www.bodhin.com ) of San Juan del Sur. Owner Larry Thraen’s goal is, “to offer a great race, for a great cause,” for athletes and their supporters, while also benefiting the local community. Long after athletes have returned home, two charities continue to rock with proceeds from Howler― Communidad Connect and Fundacion Tierra.

Take for instance Rod Dagneau and Tara Walsh from Vancouver, B.C., Canada. In February, Rod placed second in Howler’s elite division. Tara was the sole female competitor. Race organizer Larry Thraen notes, “Not only did Rod and Tara make a huge donation with their bikes― they also flew down a bike box stuffed with new helmets, gloves, glasses, jerseys, tires, reflectors and brake pads from sponsors who could not make it. Nearly everyone took home something from the race!”

Rod points out in his photo essay, Mountain Biking in the Second Poorest Country in the Western Hemisphere, ( http://www.whereintheworldareyou.com/memspeed/insights/ar... )  that Nicaragua is the third safest country in the Americas after Canada and Chile. Coupled with a low foreign currency exchange rate, San Juan Howler is a mountain biker’s dream come true― to “test the metal” of a person’s true spirit while racing on unspoiled terrain.
