Southampton Surveyors Support Radon Tee

Nov. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- As part of a national programme of seminars aimed at raising awareness of the naturally occurring radioactive gas radon amongst professionals, ProTen Services spoke to a group of RICS surveyors based in and around the Southampton area.

After explaining how simple and inexpensive radon testing is, ProTen went on to describe the ‘best practice’ methods of protecting new buildings from radon entry and mitigation methods for existing buildings.

The ADD Waterproofing system for managing radon in basements was also explained, as it is becoming more and more commonplace for cellars to be converted into living and working accommodation. In the past, the biggest concern when going below-ground was often thought to be water intrusion and dampness, however the health risks associated with radon and the knowledge that all basements are susceptible to radon entry mean that special consideration to radon must now be given when planning to create below-ground accommodation. The ADD Waterproofing system uses a unique combination of air control and waterproofing barriers to manage both water and radon safely away from the internal accommodation.  

US non-profit organisation, CanSAR (Cancer Survivors Against Radon) is dedicated to preventing radon-induced lung cancer and saving lives through education and awareness, and is sponsoring the Radon Tee World Trek 2010. The campaign aims to bring social awareness to communities through the power of photos, videos and personal stories.
