Nov. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Kids books have the power to transform lives, yet few new children's books will ever have that impact.  As a parent, you want to weed through the new releases to find out which kids books will touch your kid's heart and become a household favorite.  In our newest review of The Secret Life of MItch Spinach, we are going to share some startling statistics that we feel all parents should know in order to better understand why every family should own a copy of this innovative and timely new kids books.  http://www.MitchSpinach.com

Mitch Spinach kids books provide a smart, cool, and healthy role model which is seriously lacking in children's literature today.  In fact, the only vegetable that most kids ingest in a week, is a french fry (if you can still call that a vegetable).  Mitch Spinach entertains and motivates kids to eat healthy foods while they enjoy reading about his fantastic powers and mystery solving skills at Sunchoke Elementary.  Parents love Mitch Spinach because they are finding that their kids are actually asking for more fruits and veggies in their lunch boxes.

The World Health Organization has stated that processed food and drinks are a larger threat to world health than smoking and illegal drugs. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) predicts that our present generation of children will be the first to live shorter life spans than their parents. 1 in 3 children in America are overweight, and the problem is growing.  The number of children who are overweight has more than doubled during the past decade.
The trans-fats found in many Halloween chocolates and candy bars, such as snickers and tootsie rolls, clog the arteries and lead to heart disease, cancer, and the degeneration of joints and tendons. The Center For Science in The Public Interest (CSPI) says the food dyes Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6 found in sugary candies, such as skittles and smarties, present “a rainbow of risks,” and can cause allergic reactions, hyperactivity, and even cancer.  Another dye, Red 3, has been identified as a carcinogen even by the FDA but is still in commercial use.

What children eat in the first ten years of their lives is of the utmost importance because a child’s growing body, with its rapidly dividing cells, is at a greater risk when exposed to all types of negative and toxic influences.  As Joel Fuhrman M.D., one of the nation’s top nutrition experts, puts it “in adults, our genetic material (DNA) is wound up in a tight ball, like rubber bands on the inside of a golf ball. When we are young and cells are replicating and growing, the DNA unwinds, exposing more of its surface, which makes it more susceptible to toxic or harmful exposures.”

While textbooks and food pyramids are one form of promoting the message, they are not the most stimulating or successful pedagogical models for the elementary school student. As with any subject, children need fun and entertaining ways to learn material. What is one of the most effective ways to teach an elementary school child a concept? Through a story, of course. The subtlety of fiction enables children to learn without even realizing that they are learning.

Mitch Spinach seems to be an ordinary kid, but his classmates
have begun to suspect something. The notes in his custom-made,
temperature controlled Nutripak™ lunchbox appear to have been
written in code. While other kids eat chicken fingers and pepperoni
pizza, he mixes up his meal in a battery-powered blender before their
curious and envious eyes. He is the smartest, nicest, strongest kid in
Ms Radicchio’s class, but he often misses recess when he is called to
Principal Lycopene’s office. The truth is that his high-powered
organic fruit and vegetable smoothies give him special powers to
tackle problems and solve mysteries at Sunchoke Elementary.

However, many kids books focus on a child’s dislike of a certain food (usually a vegetable). This book series is devoid of that type of negativity and instead transforms healthy eating into a behavior to be copied in order to gain “super” powers like those of Mitch Spinach. The Secret Life of Mitch Spinach book series has the power to significantly change the way that children eat because it actually prompts children to ask for healthy food without preaching to them about the benefits of a healthy diet. http://www.MitchSpinach.com

The creators of this auspicious kids books, collaborated with Joel Fuhrman, M.D., best-selling author of Disease Proof Your Child and leading expert on nutrition, to ensure that the information in our books is based on sound nutritional and medical advice. Each book in the series contains a healthy recipe and a “Secrets for Parents and Teachers” section that explains many of the nutritional concepts alluded to in the book. The Mitch Spinach website features creative, multidisciplinary lesson plans and outlines the importance of sound nutrition. Kids can print educational games, such as crossword puzzles, and word searches that pertain to the healthy foods used in the books to reinforce what they have learned.

Here’s what Dr. Neal Barnard, President of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, has to say about Mitch Spinach:  “The Secret Life of Mitch Spinach shares an important story–the power of plant foods  . . . Mitch Spinach is a great role model for all the things children need help with—eating well, kindness, compassion, helpfulness, and modesty. The fun and engaging story of Mitch Spinach will inspire you and your children to explore the many health benefits of plant foods.”

Additionally, the authors of this unique kids books are dedicated to bringing the message of healthy eating to schools and have created the Mitch Spinach Fundraising Program that gives back $5 or $6 (depending on the number of books sold) to any school or other non-profit organization that sells the book during a specific time period.
