Some people find beaches littered with driftwood a mess or nuisance, but for Thomas MacDonald, he finds them as gifts from nature.

Sometimes hanging out at a cabin on a lake can become a little mundane, or boring especially if the fish are not biting. Not to be lulled to sleep, Thomas MacDonald would wander around his beach looking at pieces of driftwood that had floated ashore and see images in them, as a child would looking at clouds in the sky.

Dragging them up to the deck, he would cut, drill, shape and sand them bringing out the vision that each piece had given him. Some would end up in the fire pit, but some would end up in the cabin or on the deck as a table, a mirror, a lamp, a candle holder or even a napkin ring.

As company would come and go, with rave reviews of this "art", Thomas decided that he would start gifting or selling such items. His passion, he discovered, was not one that he alone had. People were very excited to see or recieve these items and soon Thomas found that there was a bit of a demand.

Spending the summer of 2010 at his cabin, Thomas made quite a few items and found that a Gallery in Kelowna British Columbia was very interested in featuring his "Art" for the month of August.

Taking his passion one step further, Thomas decided to offer his creations to the world and has developed his own website that will be offering his items, but more importantly offers a guide to other DIYers so that they can make some of their own creations. Anyone interested can find the offer at http://www.azcanuck.com as well as some great blogs and photos of his work.

Once back in Arizona, Thomas found that the passion existed there in Arizona as well. He has since consigned some of his work to "The Gifted Hand" in Tlaquepaque Village in Sedona and has a display of his own in Village Gallery in the Village of Oak Creek.

This has been a long time dream for Thomas and he believes that he is probably the only one who is looking forward to next spring's runoff to see what gifts of nature the high waters bring.
