By: Poricy Park Conservancy Tuesdays & Thursdays Mornings 9:30am-11:30am - OR - Afternoons 12:30pm-2:30pm November 9, 11, 16, 18, 30, Dec 2, 7, 9, 14, 16 Explore the wonders of the change of seasons! You can bring your child ages 3 1/2 through 6 (must have turned 3 by May 1, 2010) to beautiful Poricy Park and our caring trained instructors will lead them on hikes, tell stories, and engage them in fun crafts and activities. Give your child the healthy gift of fresh air and sunshine! Note: We have morning or afternoon sessions! Children will be grouped by age. Class size is limited! Paid registration required with signed registration form. Fee: Not necessary to register for all weeks. Registration required one week in advance. • Five week program, Tuesday AND Thursday: Members-$164; • Five week program, Tuesday OR Thursday: Members $86; Non-members-$ November Mini Camps Thursday, November 4th AND/OR Friday, November 5th 9:00am - 12:00pm - OR - 9:00am - 3:00pm Each day has special magical happenings. Register now so that you don’t miss even one extraordinary moment!!! Thursday – Chemical Magic Some of the earliest recorded “magic” was nothing more than a few simple science experiments using chemistry! We will create our own magic with simple chemicals that will amaze your friends! Friday – Motion Magic Are you familiar with force phenomena? Our trained instructors will turn abstract concepts into reality. So join us for a day of experiments that will move you! Fee: Half Day: Members-$35; Full Day: Members-$ Nature Scavenger Hunt! Sunday, November 7th - 3pm - 4:30pm Use the power of observation to find all of the items on our special list. No need to bring a collection bag because you will leave all the things you observe for the next person! We’ll provide you with the special list and a map. Return to the Nature Center with your list and receive a treasure to take home! Don’t be late – time is limited! Appropriate for all ages (children must be accompanied & supervised by an adult). Please register in advance so we know you are coming! Meet at the Nature Center. Regular program fees apply. America Recycles Day Sunday, November 14th - 3pm - 4pm Celebrate this national event with our eco friendly happening! We’ll show you more ways to be “green” and create a special craft just in time for the gift-giving season! Appropriate for ages 7 to 107 (children need to be supervised/aided by an adult). Advanced registration is appreciated. Meet at the Nature Center. Regular program fees apply. Turkey Time Sunday, November 21st - 3pm - 4pm Have you ever seen a wild turkey? What did Benjamin Franklin say about them? Join us for a hike and an entertaining program of gobbles and waddles! Appropriate for all (children must be accompanied & supervised by an adult). Please courteously register in advance. Meet at the Nature Center. Regular program fees apply. Left Overs Hike and Murray Farmhouse Tour! Friday, November 26th - 10am - 11:30am Walk away from the leftovers in your refrigerator and join us for a relaxed nature hike through Poricy Park trails. We will look around and see what is ‘left over’ from the growing season and discover nature’s seasonal wonders! Our hike will end at our authentic 1770’s Murray Farmhouse where you can receive a guided tour! Appropriate for all ages (children must be accompanied & supervised by an adult). Meet at the Nature Center. Regular program fees apply. Seasonal Colonial Hearth Sunday, November 28th, 1pm - 3pm Come taste seasonal faire prepared over the open hearth. Lenita Gullman will tempt your taste buds with “receipts” Home-Baked Gingerbread Houses! - Popular Program – Register Early!! Sunday, December 5th - 1:30pm - 3pm Experience the joy & learn the “secrets” of decorating your very own home-made gingerbread house! Our talented and experienced Eileen Beaumont will share her recipes and guide you as you create your very own sweet treat to take home! Each home-baked house measures approximately 2 1/4 inches long by 3 1/4 inches tall by 2 3/4 inches wide prior to decorating. Appropriate for ages 7 to 107 (all children must be accompanied & supervised by an adult) Advance registration needed to prepare correct number of houses. Meet at the Nature Center Fee per house: members-$25; Registration required by November 29th Natural Ornaments Sunday, December 12th - 1:30pm - 2:30pm Come & make appealing decorations using a variety of natural “ingredients” Historic Murray Farmhouse Candlelight Reception Saturday, December 26th - 4pm - 6pm Join us for this traditional favorite and relax. Time to let the busyness to. We’ll pour you a cup of warm cider while you enjoy the sweet sounds of our minstrel Tony Sloan! (children must be accompanied & supervised by an adult). Walk-ins welcome! Meet at the Murray Farmhouse. Donations greatly appreciated! Program Fees The Poricy Park Conservancy strives to provide quality programs at a reasonable cost to our visitors. Your generous contributions assist us in sustaining our operation. Unless otherwise noted, recommended program donations are $3 for members and $5 for non-members. Pre-Registration is requested for all programs unless noted otherwise, allowing us to plan supplies and instructor coverage accordingly. Although walk-in registration the day of program is available with some programs, a program will be cancelled if the pre-registration minimums are not met. PROGRAMS ARE HELD RAIN OR SHINE SO PLEASE DRESS ACCORDINGLY. The Nature Center - we’re open Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm. With exceptional ecological resources, the 250 acre historical and nature site makes it one of the largest nature preserves in Monmouth County. The Park offers recreational activities such as magnificent wooded hiking trails, bird watching, pristine pond settings, fishing, and a one-of-a-kind 70 million year-old Cretaceous fossil bed.
