The full-service credit union, which opened October 19th, was created to educate students about professional and financial responsibility. East Forsyth students created and submitted resumes and were interviewed before 10 student tellers were chosen to staff the branch. Selected students then spent two days training with tellers at Truliant Federal Credit Union before opening their branch. Each student staff member works one day a week.
“I hope to learn more things like how to save, the right way to save and the types of loans you can use as I get older,” says Miss Gray.
At the East Forsyth Student-Run Credit Union, there's no minimum balance requirement and no fees attached. Students receive ATM cards and can withdraw funds from Truliant ATM machines without any fees.
“This partnership has afforded us the opportunity to create an educational environment in which young people will have hands on experience in a financial setting” said Cindy Kanaley, Truliant Way Member Financial Center Manager. “It will also enable us to increase the knowledge of today’s youth regarding financial products and services while encouraging a new generation of savers by showing the importance of setting realistic savings goals.”
