Nov. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- Carol Gignoux, founder of ADD Insights, LLC is excited to announce the release of the first chapter of new her book entitled The Asset: A.D.D. my Ass! The book explores the concept of how Attention Deficit Disorder is an Asset not a Deficit.

As written by Carol Gignoux, M.Ed., a well-known expert in the field of ADD and ADHD, The Asset: A.D.D. my Ass!, is intended to strike a chord with people who have ADHD or perhaps work, play, love, or befriend those with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or Attention Deficit Disorder.  Having grown up with ADD herself, she brings a unique perspective and first-hand experience to this personal, and often touching, story.

“You will learn from reading the book how I came to my understanding of this condition,” says Gignoux. “This understanding allows me to show you how people with ADHD have much more potential to contribute than potential to be a hindrance.”

Carol has coined the new term “rAfters©,” to represent the special skills and unique abilities possessed by those with ADD / ADHD. “Rapid Fire Thinkers” have changed the world as we know it. People such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Emily Dickenson, Einstein, Picasso, John F. Kennedy, Leonardo da Vinci, and Mozart all have made global contributions to humanity.  For every idea that a non-rapid fire thinker has, a “rAfter” has ten. The law of averages makes this a winning situation as long as the “rAfter” has the tools to monitor, discern, and understand their own idea flow.

The medical and mental health communities are still learning about rapid fire thinking; what it means and how people can channel it effectively. The Asset: A.D.D. my Ass is based on Carol’s learning and experience working with many “rAfters” over the last 35 years as well as draws upon personal experiences from her own life.

ADHD, meaning “Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder” is estimated to affect between 15-20 million American adults. The primary symptoms of ADHD are inattention, impulsivity and sometimes hyperactivity. The diagnosis of ADHD however is not based on the presence of these symptoms alone. Most people find themselves being distracted and impulsive, even hyperactive, at some points in their lives.  What distinguishes ADHD from “everyday” inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity is the severity, duration and scope of these symptoms, as well as how they affect a person’s everyday life.
