Six Musicorp PLAY winners were awarded their instrument of choice on October 27th, 2010 at Musicorp Headquarters in North Charleston, South Carolina. Congratulations to the following students for winning: Kayla Domingue, a clarinet, Cristian Diaz, a trombone, Abigail Farrior, a violin, Rico Herriott-Smalls, a snare drum, Alexis Gilliard, a keyboard and to Andrew Nico, a trumpet. Each winning student received an award certificate, a bag of maintenance kits, stands, other small accessories and a discount card to local music stores to help them learn and care for their new instrument. Donations were given directly by Musicorp employees and friends to help fund this project through a Musicorp Bake Sale and Silent Auction.
Organized by Musicorp employees Paula McHoney and Sharon Crocker, each student contestant was required to submit an essay of 150 to 250 words addressing three questions: Which musical instrument would you like to win and why? How will a new musical instrument help you achieve your future goals? Why is education in music important? Each student was also required to be enrolled or to enroll and participate in a school music program.
