Nov. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- Randy Vaughn, marketing consultant and former church-planting missionary to Benin, West Africa, will speak on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the monthly gathering of DFW Mission Mobilizers.  Vaughn, who spent 10+ years working among the Aja people group of southern Benin, will speak to the group of global mission pastors, mission agency reprepresentatives, mission lay leaders and missionaries about how to use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social media tools.

Vaughn, now a marketing consultant to small businesses, private Christian schools and non-profits (http://www.marketingtwins.com), was asked to share ideas about how social media can help mission leaders mobilize the body of Christ to get involved.  The focus of the presentation will be 3 areas:

1.  Using a variety of social media tools to connect congregations to the work missionaries are doing.  Vaughn adds, "churches do not want to admit it, but frankly the thought, 'out of sight, out of mind' is a reality.  People are so busy, they need to be regularly reminded of what amazing work missionaries are doing in distant lands.  This affects not only their prayer engagement, but also their financial commitment as well."

2.  How missionaries and their agencies an attract new missionaries and globally-focused churches through social media channels.  "A new generation of missionaries are waiting in the wings, eager to follow God where he is already at work," suggests Vaughn.  "But they are a social media generation, so you want to communicate with them in way in which they are most familiar."

3.  Equipping churches with the tools to communicate the immediate needs of missionaries.  "Real-time communication tools like blogs, Twitter and Facebook allow the urgent prayer needs of missionaries to show up when they need them, not a week later in the printed church bulletin," noted Vaughn.

Debbie Attebury, coordinator for the DFW Mission Mobilizers group that meets the first Thursday of every month, suggested the urgency on this topic. "Social media is a great tool to inform and mobilize regarding God's plan to bring Himself worship from every tongue, tribe and nation." Atteberry, Regional Director for Perspectives in Texas, added, "Social media can help your organization stay connected to your donors while encouraging and equipping them to be engaged with your mission."
