Martez Knox of eMonopoly LLC Discusses the Danger of Outsourcing Internal Processes Abroad

"Companies need to be aware that having reliable and track able payroll and billing information is essential-after an internal audit we found that approximately 20 percent of our vendors abroad over billing us abroad. He cautions that certain internal processes should not be outsourced under any circumstance. This includes key relationships between affiliates and vendors this is where the potential for data theft and trade secrets to be stolen is greatest. Martez goes on to discuss one example of an unnamed company that at once misrepresented its size and leaked trade secrets.

"In November of 2009 we discovered our proprietary data being leaked on Indian forums and blogs.  At this point, because of the number of foreign vendors we work with we had no idea or no way of quickly auditing and stopping the data theft. Once discovered, we terminated the relationship with the vendor and audited our processes and procedures wherever we outsource.  We have since implemented procedures to deter if not eliminate this potential altogether."
