Blogosphere goes Transatlantic with launch of Spend Matters UK / Europe

Beyond the blog: a new free-to-view and exciting resource for procurement and supply chain professionals goes live today with news, opinion and technology analysis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov. 1, 2010 - London / Chicago, November 1st 2010 - Jason Busch, the leading US commentator on procurement and supply issues, and Peter Smith, an ex-President of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, and UK Government Procurement Adviser, have announced the launch today of a new, free web-based source of information, analysis and news for European procurement, supply chain and business professionals, Spend Matters UK / Europe.

The website will offer analysis, opinion and information to help readers understand what is going on in key supply markets, and identify the best practices, processes, technology and solutions for better procurement, management of expenditure and suppliers. Most organisations spend between 40 and 50% of their entire revenue on procurement of goods and services, so getting this right leads to immediate bottom line benefits.

Spend Matters UK/Europe builds on the success of the Spend Matters site in the US and Peter’s Procurement Excellence blog in the UK.  Spend Matters US has become one of the world’s top websites in its sector, with tens of thousands of professional readers, and sponsorship from technology, finance and advisory firms.

“This is one of the first examples of the blogosphere going Transatlantic“, explained Busch.  “In fact, we’re moving well beyond the simple ‘blog’ idea into a much broader, more useful and exciting resource for our readers”.

Like Spend Matters in the US, the new site will publish news, opinion, guidance and comment on procurement and related issues, including supply chain, spend and ‘purchase to pay’ management.  While it will be sponsored, it will be scrupulously independent, providing free-of- charge but in-depth analysis concerning technology, solution providers and other suppliers of interest to its professional readership.
The initial sponsors are software firms Intenda and Trade Extensions as Lead Sponsors, while Supplierforce and Spikes Cavell are in place as Associate Sponsors. “We’re delighted to have such great firms and professionals helping us launch this exciting new site, and we’ll be announcing more sponsors over the next few weeks”, said Smith.

Both Jason and Peter have become known for their often personal and also at times outspoken approach to the topics they cover.  “We aim to make our writing as entertaining as possible as well as informative.  While we focus largely on business, we have agreed that Spend Matters UK / Europe will continue my traditional monthly music review column,” commented Smith.  “That was a non-negotiable condition when Jason and I first discussed this!”
