Oct. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- The author of Severed Wings calls her novel a white vampire story. Why? Because the storyline duplicates that of vampire stories: mystical, dangerous, exciting. But there is a catch. There is no blood-sucking character in Severed Wings.

“Yes, there is no vampire in Severed Wings because I’ve replaced them with angels,” said the author, Lucille R. Haake. Citing her then 12-year old daughter as her inspiration for writing her debut novel, she aimed at crafting a story that would match the appeal of vampire novels to young readers but something that is consistent with her spirituality. The result is Severed Wings.

“I know vampire is fiction and there is no authority with regard to it,” Haake said. “It’s an open subject and up for grabs; anyone can just make a story out of it. What was hard for me was to create a story that would be as stirring and as contemporary but minus the vampires. I picked angels because they are similarly supernatural creatures. My promise is that the angels in my novel are as interesting as those famous good-looking vampires breathed into life by books, movies, and TV series. Vampires are the hot thing nowadays but there are just too many of them currently in the market. Now, it’s time for angels.”

The subject of angels seems to be religious as angels are biblical characters. Does she consider Severed Wings a Christian novel?

“I can’t really make a straightforward answer on that one. I did not write the novel to preach although I was born into a strong Christian background. I read somewhere that fictitious stories, may it be in print or on screen, sometimes make unintentional statement. I can’t help it if in the end, there will be a spiritual undertone in my writings because that is just who I am. If you think of it, that’s what we all are, we are all spiritual beings.”

What about the target audience of the book?

Severed Wings is really broad in its market. It’s for young readers as the protagonist is a teenager but it would be enjoyable as well to the older readers.”

Severed Wings had been released on Amazon Kindle as a downloadable book. The print version is on its way. The author is currently writing the sequel which would be entitled Broken Wings and would come out sometime in April 2010.
