Association for Moral Education International Conference Comes to St. Louis

The 36th Annual Conference, “Gateway to Justice,” takes place Nov. 4–6 at The Chase Park Plaza

Oct. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- ST. LOUIS – The Association for Moral Education will host it’s 36th Annual Conference November 4–6 at The Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis. This year’s conference is titled, “Gateway to Justice: Meeting the Moral Challenges of Social Inequality.” The meeting will explore the intersection of individuals’ moral development and the many faces of social inequality and injustice. The international conference is sponsored by local universities including University of Missouri–St. Louis, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Lindenwood University, Maryville University and Washington University in St. Louis. It is an honor for St. Louis to be hosting the event, which draws approximately 200 attendees from every continent except Antarctica.

The 2010 conference begins Thursday, November 4, with a half-day pre-conference workshop hosted by CHARACTERplus and UMSL College of Education’s Center for Character and Citizenship titled “Exemplary Practices in Character Education.” The rest of the day features symposia, paper sessions and a welcome reception.

Friday, November 5, continues the forum with invited speakers, additional symposia and paper sessions, a poster session and president’s reception.

A special one-day program for Saturday, November 6, is designed for local educators, and will include invited speakers, symposia, paper sessions and poster sessions. Speakers include James P. Comer, MD, MPH, Maurice Falk Professor of Child Psychiatry; Richard Wright, Curators’ Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at UMSL; and Sheldon H. Berman, superintendent of Jefferson County (Ky.) Public Schools.

Additional speakers throughout the conference include Bull Puka, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Sidney D. Watson, professor of law, Saint Louis University; Lutz H. Eckensberger, professor of psychology, German Institute for International Educational Research; and Four Arrows, aka Don Jacobs, Fielding Graduate University.

The Association for Moral Education provides an interdisciplinary forum for professionals interested in the moral dimensions of educational theory and practice, and is dedicated to fostering communication, cooperation, training, curriculum development and research that links moral theory with educational practice.
