Oct. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Fall River, Ma., October 22, 2010-  On October 18th the Herald News asked candidates for the 6th Bristol District “Should the legislature be subject to regular audits conducted by the Office of State Auditor?”  Rep. Sullivan responded with a fervent “Yes, and the reputation I have developed as a State Representative is an* someone who is supportive of open and transparent government.”

Well Rep. Sullivan, we are confused, because as late as February 11, 2009, according to the Roll Call Vote of the Journal of the House, No. 13 Supplement, you voted against submitting to audits.  According to the amendment “For the purpose of such audits, the independent auditing entity shall have access to the financial records of the House and each of its committees. Such audit shall be conducted in accordance with the standards for audits of governmental organizations, programs, activities and functions published by the Comptroller General of the United States.”, you voted “Nay”.

We as Americans are tired of the LACK of “transparency” in government from our elected officials.  David Sullivan has had fourteen years of opportunities to foster a climate of honesty in government, but when offered the chance to affect real change in the standard operating practices of the State House, he voted with the Status-Quo.

David Rose's answer: "Yes. I will strongly support legislation allowing the State Auditor’s office to conduct regular audits of the books of the Massachusetts Legislature. Simply put, taxpayers have a right to know how their money is being spent. The lack of transparency in state government due to one party rule on Beacon Hill has crippled our state. Legislators should have nothing to hide from their constituents. For far too long, there’s been a gap between what legislators do and say in their district and what they do and say on Beacon Hill. As your next State Representative, I will close that gap and restore honor and accountability in state government. It’s time to open the books and take a good hard look at how our money is being spent."

A vote for David Rose is a Vote for Action.
