Email diagnostic tool released

Oct. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Today tc software announced the release of a new Email diagnostic tool, available from their website, for testing and securing SMTP Servers on the Internet. The tool, named CheckSMTP, simply accepts an email address and, without sending any email, performs a series of tests on the SMTP servers configuration and security.
CheckSMTP can detect DNS configuration problem, Suspect or invalid reverse DNS records, blacklisted servers, invalid replies from SMTP servers, open gateways and gateways which would allow anonymous connections to impersonate a valid email address.
The tool can also detect many common problems with mailboxes such as an invalid email address or mailboxes which are full.

Anthony Commander, one of the tools developers said “The tests this tool performs are most common when diagnosing a fault with an SMTP server. The last time we where asked to fault find a problem we looked online for a tool which would run through these tests for us but only found sites with instructions on how to manually run through the tests.”
“The tool is a spammers wet dream, which is why we monitor it along side the other sites we maintain and have put in quite a bit of security to stop spammers using it to find an open gateway”
