National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere Names New Board Member
Thomas Walters of Allstate to Aid in Development of  National Students Against Violence Everywhere Initiatives

October 27, 2010, RALEIGH, N.C. — Carleen Wray, Executive Director of the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE), has announced that Thomas Walters, a local Allstate Insurance Company agency owner, has been named to the organization’s board of directors.  As a board member, Walters will commit to and uphold the vision, mission and strategic plan of SAVE.

In his 17 years as an Allstate agency owner with four agencies in the Triangle, Walters has so fully immersed himself in the community that many residents say there is hardly a part of it he hasn't touched.  He's been a city councilman, director of the local Chamber of Commerce, served on the board of the fire department and helped to raise over $400,000 to help local families in need through the local YMCA.  Allstate recently recognized Walters with the 2009 Ray Lynch Award for exceptional community service.  As part of this award, company spokesman Dennis Haysbert visited a local YMCA in August to recognize Thomas' and Allstate's efforts in the local community.  His unyielding dedication to making significant community contributions singled him out amid a pool of more than 12,000 Allstate agency owners, making him the sole recipient of the Allstate service award in 2009.

“We are thrilled to have Thomas join SAVE’s board of directors,” said Wray.  “He brings a combination of civic and community service, and strategic vision which will benefit SAVE as it examines its future goals, objectives and direction.”

SAVE is a student-run, student-initiated public nonprofit violence prevention organization with more than 1,900 chapters in 47 states and more than 200,000 members in elementary, middle, high schools, colleges and communities nationwide.  The organization works in partnership with the Allstate Foundation to support the violence prevention and teen safe driving efforts of students through their SAVE chapters.  The Allstate Foundation is an independent, charitable organization made possible by the Allstate Corporation.
