GE Whizz – Britain’s Oldest Working Fridge

GE Fridge is UK’s Oldest Working Appliance

Oct. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- The record for Britain’s oldest working fridge, established earlier this year as being 56-years-old, has been broken by a fridge purchased in Malacca – in what was then Malaya – in 1952 and is still going strong 58 years on.

The GE fridge was purchased by the Stogdale family to keep baby milk fresh for Doris Stogdale’s new addition, David, who was born in Malacca while the family was overseas working.

Today, in Oxford 58 years later, Doris Stogdale is still using the same fridge which was shipped back to the UK in 1960.

Apart from the days spent in transit back to the UK, the GE fridge has been in continuous use and has never required any maintenance, nor a single replacement part.

David Garden, Commercial Director for Glen Dimplex, GE's appliance distributor in the UK, said: “To have the oldest working fridge in the UK, and possibly one of the oldest in the world, is a great testament to the reliability and durability of the GE product.

"It is wonderful for one family to have used it day in, day out for nearly 60 years, without a thing go wrong.”
