Local Water Filter Company Launches Products Made to Meet New Lower Lead Standards

In 2010 the standards for water quality have been challenged and the result will be less lead in the water in the future. Filters for Tap, an Asheville based company, recently launched products to help homes protect against lead in the water.

Oct. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- In 2010 Representative Anna Eshoo of California wrote and submitted H.R. 5289, the Get the Lead Out Act. The bill was part of the Assistance, Quality and Affordability Act of 2010 (AQUA) and both passed the House in late July. New homes will soon be built with only lead free plumbing fixtures and pipes. In Asheville, one locally owned and operated business, Filters for Tap, has launched new products focused on helping existing home owners to easily test water and avoid higher concentrations of lead.

The latest products offered for consumers that want to protect against lead are the Carbon Block-Plus Lead Filters and the Doulton Twin Housing water filtration system. Twin Housing water filter systems utilize two filters; the UltraCarb and the HA-Fluoride-Plus protect consumers from lead, fluoride, bacteria, chlorine and more. These filters create the fresh taste, ensure the water is safe and offer the highest quality at an affordable cost. Counter top water filters are easy to install.

The Carbon Block-Plus Lead Filter removes chlorine and reduces lead, volatile organic chemicals, and cyst. It provides broad range of protection. The Carbon Block-Plus can be placed in existing standard 10 housings and provides a high reduction rate of chemicals and lead.  It also improves taste and safety of water and conforms to NSF/ANSI standard 42 and 53 for lead reduction.

Filters for Tap also sells easy to use Water Test Kits able to test for Lead and Copper, pesticides, bacteria, Nitrate and Nitrite, free Chlorine and total Chlorine, Chloride and Sulfate, pH, total Alkalinity, total Hardness, Iron and Hydrogen Sulfide.

According to the office of Rep. Eshoo, the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) allows up to 8% lead content for faucets and other plumbing fixtures. “The Safe Drinking Water Act has failed to effectively protect against the lead exposure acquired through our plumbing systems,” Rep. Eshoo states. The Get the Lead Out Act, if passed, will change the allowed percentage of lead from 8% to .25%. (http://eshoo.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=...)

The EPA website explains that children exposed to high levels of lead in the water can experience developmental delays both physically and mentally, as well as lowered attention spans and increased learning disabilities. Adults with prolonged exposure can develop high blood pressure, kidney problems and more.
