Local Water Filter Company Launches Products Made to Meet New Lower Lead Standards

Oct. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- In 2010 Representative Anna Eshoo of California wrote and submitted H.R. 5289, the Get the Lead Out Act. The bill was part of the Assistance, Quality and Affordability Act of 2010 (AQUA) and both passed the House in late July. New homes will soon be built with only lead free plumbing fixtures and pipes. According to the office of Rep. Eshoo, the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) allows up to 8% lead content for faucets and other plumbing fixtures. “The Safe Drinking Water Act has failed to effectively protect against the lead exposure acquired through our plumbing systems,” Rep. The EPA website explains that children exposed to high levels of lead in the water can experience developmental delays both physically and mentally, as well as lowered attention spans and increased learning disabilities.
