Oct. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- Cornwall has become increasingly busy over the Christmas and New Year period in recent years - and for good reason. More and more people are cottoning on to the fact that the county's attractions don't end when summer does. There's plenty of unique local traditions and things to do that mean a winter break can be just as much fun.

In Charlestown on the south coast of mid Cornwall, the festive period offers several drawcards.

A Boxing Day Dip
Since 1991, there has been annual Boxing Day Swim organised by the local rowing club. Over the years the swim has continued to attract both brave swimmers and keen spectators who have raised several thousands of pounds for local charities. With the sea averaging a chilly 10 degrees in December, it is handy the village pubs, the Harbourside Inn and the Rashleigh Arms, are close by for a hot toddy to warm up.

Work off your overindulgence
Charlestown offers plenty of scope for working over the festive overindulgence. Situated right on the South West Coast Path, which extends right around the coast of Cornwall, means it is well placed for gentle strolls or more energetic hikes. The village beach is also ideal for the kids to run off steam.

What are you dressing up as?
It is tradition in many coastal towns in Cornwall for New Years Eve revellers to wear fancy dress and Charlestown is no exception. So if you've been dying to dive into your dressing up box, now's your chance. Some locals put a huge amount of effort into their costumes so why not compete and indulge your inner exhibitionist!

Perfect for a family gathering
If you're staying in Charlestown, Simply Time in Cornwall's luxury holiday cottages right on the quayside are perfect for a family gathering.

The cottages can be hired either individually or together for groups of friends or extended family. The dining table at Harbourside Cottage seats 14 and the kitchen is fully kitted out with big serving dishes and plenty of glasses and crockery. Simply Time can also arrange catering or even a chef, if you want an extra special meal.

According to Simply Time's owners, the Ogg family, "Charlestown has lots to offer for a festive family break. Outdoorsy types will find plenty to keep them busy or if you want to take it easy there's always something to watch in the harbour from the warmth of your cottage."
