Cornish Boutique Has Christmas All Wrapped Up!

Husbands and partners need panic no more about choosing and wrapping the perfect Christmas gift for their loved ones.

Birds of a Feather Lifestyle Boutique, located in St.Ives’ newly refurbished Drill Hall, are providing a Gift List service complete with wrapping this Christmas.

This is the perfect solution for people who might be stuck for ideas as to what to buy their partners, or for anyone who often receives a gift accompanied by the words “it’s the thought that counts!” or “I’ve kept the receipt…”

Customers are now able to collect a card from the counter and wander the store, creating their dream Christmas wish list.  The card is then filed safely with the boutique and is available on request to anyone who would like to buy that person a gift but is unsure as to what they might like.

Juliette Trevithick and Sarah Hocking, both from St.Ives, co-own the store which opened in August of this year to offer an eclectic mix of clothing, homeware, jewellery and accessories.

Juliette thinks the Gift List service will really help Cornish men out this Christmas.  “Choosing a Gift List at Birds of a Feather makes sure that your husband or partner knows exactly what you would like.  You can choose a selection of things so he can select one that will still be a surprise, it will just provide a bit of guidance.  He can then buy it - and he needn’t get in a fix wrapping it either, as we take care of that too.  It works just like a wedding list, ensuring that someone can buy a gift for their loved one that they truly want.”

Sarah already has an extremely successful clothing business called Fabulous Kids and Juliette’s expertise is in the art world, creating and sourcing beautiful items.  With great business sense meeting an eye for art, they have hand picked the best of local, national and international design talent to stock the boutique with.

Sarah describes the idea behind launching the boutique, “Our mission is simple – to only sell things that are beautiful and useful.  From day wear to evening wear, humorous cards to retro lamps, we have a fascinating mix of design lovelies.  We have some beautiful new items in for Christmas at a range of prices starting at 99p, so we will have the perfect gift for you too.”

There is something for everyone at Birds of a Feather, from bright, quirky homeware, purses and bags, to amazing hair accessories, retro lamps and shades…modern jewellery and screen printed cushions to designer pouffes and original prints…

Sarah has an established business already (Fabulous Kids) and wanted to launch a women’s equivalent, concentrating on Danish suppliers such as Rice, Noa Noa, Lisbeth Dahl and Pakhuis Oost, which has brought a funky Scandinavian feel to the shop.   Juliette’s expertise is in the art world.  Her flair for sourcing designers such as Lisa Stickley (designs for The Tate and Debenhams), Jane Foster (designs for Cloth Kits) and Penryn based furniture designer Lucy Turner, has brought a refreshing twist to the boutique, making it different to what is currently out there on the high street.

As well as sourcing all over the world, they have sought out many local and British makers at various design fairs, eager to showcase the incredible talent that is on their doorstep.  They are proud to be selling gorgeous gifts made or designed in Cornwall and the UK.  They have just introduced new St.Agnes business ‘Sloth’, run by Alison Havers, who brings life to old chairs, lovingly reupholstering them in Designer Guild fabric and recreating one off masterpieces.

New clothing line OneLife caters for all ages, shapes and sizes…Reminiscent of Oska, it matches and layers beautifully, perfect for both casual and occasion wear at a very affordable price. They are the only stockist in Cornwall.  Danish company NoaNoa is a treat to have in store. From everyday basics to evening wear, it is stylish and classic, with a contemporary twist, and fabulous to wear. The quality is second to none. The boutique is a unique mix of gifts and clothing which combines nostalgic names such as Liberty and Cloth Kits with labeled brands at competitive prices.
