Oct. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- Weather Collective (weathercollective.com), a new website, has launched with the goal of finding out if a group of people can predict the weather better than the weather man can.

In the book The Wisdom of Crowds, James Surowiecki explains that it has been observed that when guessing the answer to a problem, the average of all of the guesses is likely to be closer to the actual than any one individuals guess. Weather collective puts this theory to the test to see if it could be it can be applied to weather forecasts; to see if a group of individuals can more accurately predict the weather than any one person.

"You don’t have to know anything about weather forecasting to participate.  The more people that guess the weather, the better the results will be."  Says Jim McGaw, Founder of Weather Collective.

A user can sign up for free at http://www.weathercollective.com and predict tomorrow’s daily high, low and weather conditions. After the actual weather for that day has been recorded users can come back to the site and see how accurate their guesses were. Weather Collective also compiles all of the predictions for that day and location to give a group prediction.
