Children will receive cash, healthy chocolate and an entry from to win an iPod Touch when they bring in their treats. Trick-or-treating is a cherished tradition for many children and their parents. But one local chiropractor is reminding families to be mindful of how those sticky confectionery treats can impact their children’s health. Coquitlam Family Chiropractic and RAW Foundation are offering a candy buy-back program for children 14 and under. For every pound of candy a child brings in, the office will reimburse the child $1, provide them with an entry form to win a 32 Gig iPod Touch and a healthy chocolate. In addition, the office is matching every $1 and contributing the funds to local charities. "Eating candy can have short-term and long-term effects," said Dr. Ali Amiri, founder of Coquitlam Family Chiropractic. White sugar can make a child restless, cause weight gain and lead to a compromised immune system. “The majority of health conditions are diet-related,” The office hopes to see a large turnout for the buy-back program, which takes place from Nov. 1, 2010 from 4-7pm. -END- # # # RAW Foundation is Canada’s leading raw food culinary arts & nutrition school; devoted to helping individuals improve their health by educating on the benefits of a plant based diet; empowering people to prepare delicious meals quickly and easily.
