PRLog -- HOUSTON, TX - ILC's Houston group delivered to NASA, on August 24th, the final two mockup "ESR3D" advanced space suits. Originally requested as an unpressurized suit, the design was modified to operate at cabin vent pressure of 1 psi and all four units were proofed at 2.6 psi before delivery, and will be used for manned vehicle integration testing. The suits were delivered in two sizes, two with current Shuttle Advanced Crew Escape (ACES) suit glove and neck ring interfaces and two with Shuttle EMU type wrist disconnect interfaces. While the design and manufacture was Houston-led from start to finish, the eight-month effort is a testament to the successful integration of the Houston and Dover offices, drawing on the resources and talents in both locations. A number of requirement changes and additions were incorporated while the task was underway, further demonstrating the value and versatility of this arrangement. On September 17th, ILC Dover’s Houston Group expanded its Houston office. The engineering office is still at 2045 Space Park Drive, but is now in Suite 185. The new engineering office is nearly double in size and allows ILC to better accommodate customer needs.
