Here are Duane's 10 Commandments for Good Social Media:

1. Thou shalt be brief and to the point when commanding your followers' attention.

2. Thou shalt, where appropriate, liberally sprinkle your digital musings with good humour.

3. Thou shalt not post empty thoughts. Real-life initiatives should always back up your social media strategy.

4. Whenever possible, thou shalt share high-quality information which is relevant to your followers.

5. Thou shalt use social media, do not let it use you. Stop signing up to the latest widget, application and social network just because it is there. Use only what is useful and relevant.

6. Thou shalt always speak in the first person. As a brand if you do not speak in the first person you risk coming across as cold and detached.

7. Thou shalt not ignore direct messages, @ responses and general cries for help. If you are ignoring people then what is the point of being in the social media space?

8. Thou shalt enjoy social media. Failing that, find an angle that makes it enjoyable.

9. Thou shalt always show respect. Never get drawn into any conflicts.

10. Thou shalt never take anything for granted. Things change rapidly in the world of social media. Keep things fresh by constantly improving on details.
