The Nordman Fir (Abies nordmanniana) is a fir native to the mountains south and east of the Black Sea and is found in Turkey, Georgia, and Russia and into the northern parts of Armenia. The Nordman Fir is a large evergreen coniferous tree growing to a maximum of 60m or 187 ft if left to grow in the wild, however these trees have been found up to 85m or 278 ft, making them one of the tallest in trees in Europe. This is the 'original' Christmas tree and for some people the only tree. They have a beautiful conical shape, excellent fragrance, but have lower needle retention, also available pot grown.
The leaves are needle-like and flat and grow up to 3cm long by 2mm wide. The needles are revered for their thick, glossy dark green color. The tip of the leaf is usually blunt, often slightly notched at the tip, but can be pointed, particularly on strong growing shoots on young trees.
The Nordman Fir is one of the most important and well known, popular species of Fir grown and cultivated particularly for their  use as  a Christmas tree, being favored for its attractive foliage, with needles that are not sharp and do not drop readily when the tree dries out.
The cones of the Nordman Fir grow between 10-20 cm long and 4-5 cm wide. This tree is an excellent choice where satisfaction is guaranteed, a beautiful Christmas tree with strong branches, high needle retention and a great scent.
