Follow on Google News | Live At The Zoo US Promoter Vindicated, and Australian Owner Peter Rowe Slammed with Maximum FinesHeld at Monarto Zoo, 2009 Easter music festival owner Peter Rowe in more trouble with court's finding. Rowe found to wrongly blamed US promoter Hal Royce.
By: Hal Abramson, concert-promotions.com Royce's Adelaide attorney Rick Harley, told Royce on Thursday , "there is an element of social justice in all of this. Fact is the bloke (Rowe) is a moron . He tried to blame you and the Judge saw through that and hammered him with just about the highest fine ever imposed ....and he will have issues in the future." Royce, a promoter with 35 years experience said he was hired by the inexperienced Rowe in October, 2008 to promote a multi-day weekend camp out festival, was delayed by Rowe in arriving and then Rowe proceeded to violate most provisions in his contract. Royce also said, 'the guy was a conman, brought me over on false pretenses, didn't pay bills, and totally changed once I was there. He was a nightmare to work with, (scratch that), he wasn't around most of the time and had no idea what he was getting involved with. Peter Rowe was criminally negligent and then to escape any blame, lied to to the Adelaide Advertiser who's writer Sam Kelton then slandered Royce, also criticizing the event before it even happened.. Sam Kelton had no idea who the good guy was and caused great harm to me. He won't ever apologize, he's just as psychotic as Rowe." The Judge stated that Rowe severely comprimised Royce's ability to manage the event properly." Royce added that Rowe was so late, I only had 79 days to make a major music festival happen with little resources. I had to fight with him for many weeks just to get a car which was clearly in my contract. I had no help at all the first 45 days. Rowe refused to reimburse me for thousands in receipts I put out for him to take care of details at the end. Then he had the gaul to ask me to pay for clean up. I couldn't tell the public of the intensity of the problems during the pre-production or it would have hurt attendance. I was hired to make a festival happen and I did." Royce said, "It was a pity too, because just about everybody else in Australia were great and the people we finally hired worked hard- did an incredible job under fire. I would have stayed had things worked out. i received really unfair treatment from Rowe and Kelton. I am glad there is justice in Australia." Royce finished with, "everybody who attended the 3 stage, 140 band festival had a great time, they wrote to me and want me back, but it was such a bad experience I hope I never have to be in the state of South Australia again., festivals in other states there, maybe." # # # About Hal Royce: A veteran 56 year old US promoter, who also serves as a consultant for other festivals.
