Deputy Attorney General Of The California Department Of Justice To Address Electronic Pedigree

Oct. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- The Bio Supply Management Alliance is proud to present Mr. Joshua Room, the Deputy Attorney General with the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, from the San Francisco Office, who will address the attendees of the third annual Biotech Supply Chain Academy.  The annual conference of the supply chain community in the bio life sciences industry will be held at the Embassy Suites SFO in South San Francisco on October 26.  The leading thought and practice leaders will be gathering to discuss topics regarding TRANSFORMING THE GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN FOR END-TO-END VISIBILITY & QUALITY PATIENT CARE.

Having served since 2003 as the liaison counsel to the California State Board of Pharmacy, Mr. Room has been involved with implementation and plans for enforcement of California's pedigree laws since their first enactment in 2004.  Mr. Room has earned a reputation for actively litigating enforcement cases and other cases in state and federal courts on behalf of the California State Board of Pharmacy and approximately 40 other state agencies.

His address to the world's leading community for bio life science industries supply chain professionals from over 90 companies will present the "Background and Contours of the California Electronic Pedigree Requirements - Existing Law, Timelines for Implementation, and Next Steps."  In March 2008, the California Board of Pharmacy (CBOP) published its "E-Pedigree Requirements" which are scheduled to go into effect in a phased approach between 2015-2017, the Deputy Attorney General will reinforce California’s commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of bio-pharmaceutical products as a leader in the world and present background of the law, elements of the law, upcoming developments and a road map.

Devendra Mishra, Executive Director of the Bio Supply Management Alliance (BSMA), home of the Academy, stated, “The industry executives who are fostering the mission of the Academy firmly believe that E-Pedigree requirements, while being mandated by the Government, deserve serious for collaborative development and gradual implementation because of the inherent value it brings in providing visibility, accountability and control in the supply chain of the industry. The World Health Organization estimates that in developed countries, counterfeit drugs are about 1 percent of the market. To put this in perspective, if about 3.6 billion prescriptions were dispensed in the US in 2009, counterfeit drugs would account for 36 million.”
