Storybook Advent Calendar delivers Christmas to Troops Overseas through Operation E-book Drop

Oct. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- With the holidays approaching many military families find themselves apart or with limited time together. Storybook Advent Calendar by Lewis Brech seeks to help military families with members deployed away from home celebrate Christmas every night with their families, no matter where they are stationed. E-books offer the unique ability to be in two places yet share and read the same book with family members over the phone or via VoIP applications.

“We realize how difficult it is to be away from home during the holidays,” explains Laura D Lewis of Lewis Brech. “By making Storybook Advent available through Operation E-book Drop we hope those deployed overseas and their families can at least share some of the holidays together, even if it is virtually.”

Operation E-book Drop was started in 2009 by Ed Patterson, an author and Army Veteran when a soldier in Iraq explained Whispernet (Amazon's wireless download service) didn't work in Iraq. Working with Bill Kendrick, Smashwords' CTO, they developed a system that allows Smashword’s ebook authors to donate free ebooks to serving members of the military overseas.

Storybook Advent Calendar e-book format is available for free to military families, members of UN Peace-keeping forces and US State Department representatives deployed away from their families October 22 through December 1, 2010.
