Follow on Google News | POC (Point-of-collection) Coagulation Testing Increasing: KaloramaGrowth is partly derived from an increased number of cardiovascular procedures and the need to run the activated coagulation time (ACT) test on individuals receiving heparin.
“Growth is partly derived from an increased number of cardiovascular procedures and the need to run the ACT test on individuals receiving heparin,” according to Kalorama’s senior diagnostic analyst Shara Rosen. Manufacturers of commercially available analyzers for ACT testing include Array Medical (Somerville, NJ), Roche Diagnostics (Indianapolis, IN), International Technidyne Corp. (Edison, NJ), Helena Laboratories (Beaumont, TX) and Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN. No one company dominates the market. The increased use of PT tests by professionals outside the hospital is related to the emergence of CLIA waived systems that link to disease management tools and offer electronic data transfer. Some of the devices that offer these features are: International Technidyne’s Hemochron Signature Elite; Siemens’ BCS XP system; and Roche's CoaguChek XS Plus System. The leader is Roche with sales generated by professional and self-test devices. Next, in order of market share, are International Technidyne (ITC), Hemosense, and Siemens. Hemosense is the only company focused on POC PT testing.
