Top Model of Colour Finalists Showcase at The Jewel

On Sunday 17 October the Top Model of Colour (TMC) 2010 finalists showcased for guests and were interviewed by various media representatives at the glamorous Jewel bar in Covent Garden.
 
Oct. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- On Sunday 17 October the Top Model of Colour (TMC) 2010 finalists showcased for guests and were interviewed by various media representatives at the glamorous Jewel bar in Covent Garden.

The calibre of this year’s contestants is very impressive; they conveyed passion and enthusiasm when showing off their modelling skills and were extremely confident in front of the camera.  Each model was a vision of style and class in their elegant dresses and sharp suits.

The purple themed dress code perfectly complimented the opulence of the venue with its beautiful chandeliers and rich colour scheme.

TMC creator Sola Oyebade was delighted at the events turn out and is looking forward to the grand finale on Saturday 27 November. “It was such an enjoyable and electric evening with the models mixing and socialising with celebrities and the press, for many of them this was the first time of attending such events and it was good practise in preparing them for the very competitive finale they will be competing in.”

It is an open secret that models of colour are not seen to have selling power and therefore are rarely used in ad campaigns, magazine shoots or catwalk shows. Although this issue has been acknowledged within the fashion industry in recent years the battle for change goes on. There have been small victories, such as Vogue Italia’s Black Issue July 2008, but it is now seen as something of a novelty.

The TMC Competition aims to give models of colour exposure within the fashion industry as well as presenting them with the opportunity to take advice from professionals on how to improve their skills and become a successful model.  TMC runs every year and is opened to both female and male models of Asian, African, Caribbean, Hispanic, Oriental, and Mix Heritage decent.

Previous winners of TMC have gone on to grace the covers of popular glossy magazines, model during London Fashion Week and as the image of the competition grows so does the success of the models who compete in it.  TMC strives to raise the profile of models of colour so that seeing a diverse range of men and women on the covers of magazines, in catwalk shows and in advertising campaigns will become common place.
